Joyce Sciacca

Watercolor is my medium of choice but I enjoy photography as well which is a helpful tool when creating a painting.

In 1999, I visited a local art group that met monthly. After watching the guest artists demonstrate their various techniques, I made my first brush stroke in 2001 and officially began my journey into the world of art.

At the beginning, I was self taught and worked on very small and detailed pieces. But in time, I attended classes and workshops with artists Toni Chaplin, Don Andrews, Barbara Cox, and Gerald Brommer. And most recently, I traveled to Greece and Portugal to paint on location with Charles Gruppe. Since my beginnings, the size and scope of the artwork has grown.

Inspiration for my latest works comes from my visits to my vacation home in Belize. The tropics provide a larger than life display of extremely colorful flowers and foliage…a wonderful studio from which I have created exaggerated blooms and exotic leaf works.

I still have a long way to go as one never stops learning, but I am really enjoying this journey.
